Student Advocacy Day

An all-day, virtual event

This is your opportunity to help make a difference! Join forces with fellow CSD students and NSSLHA chapters to make your collective voice be heard. This year, we are rallying behind your future clients and patients by asking Congress to support the Individuals with Disabilities Education (IDEA) Full Funding Act.


Our goal is to send 6,000 Take Action letters to Congress.

We are telling Congress they must do more to fully fund special education and ensure children with disabilities receive the free, appropriate public education they are entitled to under the law! Ask them to co-sponsor the IDEA Full Funding Act (H.R. 4519/S. 2217). Get up to speed on the issue by reading this one-page issue brief [PDF]. 

Here's What You Can Do:

1. Send letters to your member(s) of Congress and ask them to co-sponsor the IDEA Full Funding Act. 

  • Go to this page.
  • Fill in your info.
  • Click "send message" and your letter will automatically send to your member(s) of Congress!

2. Print and customize these Take Action signs [PDF]. Share why you took action for the IDEA Full Funding Act and post a photo of yourself and your sign on your socials. Tag National NSSLHA and the member(s) of Congress to whom your letters were sent.

3. Participate in the Social Media Chapter Challenge. The theme for October is . . . Advocacy. Learn more about how you or your chapter can participate.

Organize a Chapter Event

Advocating is more fun when you do it as a group! So why not organize a virtual "dinner" or set aside time during a chapter meeting for members to submit Take Action letters on their laptops! It’s a great way for members to talk to each other about why it’s important for them to advocate.

Need to incentivize your members to participate? Think about offering them a gift card for a “piece of pizza for a piece of their time,” or a donut so they, “donut forget about advocacy.”
