Executive Council Meeting Report

The NSSLHA Executive Council (EC) met in person on November 20, 2021, at the Marriott Marquis in Washington, D.C. Here, you’ll find the Summary Report of the meeting.
Executive Council members in attendance were President Adrienne Graves, President-Elect Gabrielle Howard, Vice President for Finance Miya Wilson, Vice President for Planning Emily Lee, Vice President for Academic Affairs Melanie Alcala, Vice President for Government Affairs and Public Policy Sheila Mathew, Vice President for Programming (AuD) Salvatore Paporto, Vice President for Programming (SLP) Rachel O’Brien, Vice President for Student State Officers (Western Region) Leila Regio, Vice President for Student State Officers (Central Region) Adriana Garcia, Vice President for Student State Officers (Northeastern Region) Kate Phelps, Vice President for Student State Officers (Southern Region) Allison Buroker, and NSSLHA National Advisor Dr. Kia Johnson.
NSSLHA Program Director Gennith Johnson, ASHA Chief Staff Officer for Operations Kyle Vickers, ASHA Chief Executive Officer Arlene Pietranton, ASHA President Lynn Williams, ASHA President-Elect Judy Rudebusch Rich, ASHA Past President Theresa Rodgers, 2022 ASHA Convention Co-Chair for Audiology Mark Deruiter, and 2022 ASHA Convention Co-Chair for Speech-Language Pathology Edie Hapner were in attendance.
Opening Remarks
The Fall 2021 NSSLHA EC business meeting was called to order at 8:05 a.m. on Saturday, November 20, 2021, by President Adrienne Graves.
Leadership Activity
Graves led a team-building activity with all EC members.
Strategic Plan
EC reviewed and discussed National NSSLHA’s 2020-2022 Strategic Plan, including goals:
- Build a strong and diverse membership community.
- Enhance member understanding and engagement.
- Facilitate collaboration and growth.
Lee reviewed the key performance indicators (KPIs) for these goals and reported that the progress toward desired outcomes is as expected.
ASHA 2022 Convention Co-Chairs Update
The 2022 Convention Co-Chairs, Mark Deruiter and Edie Hapner, joined the meeting to share plans for the 2022 ASHA Convention in New Orleans, Louisiana, and led a discussion about involving students.
ASHA Presidential Team Update
ASHA President Lynn Williams, ASHA President-Elect Judy Rudebusch Rich, ASHA Past President Theresa Rodgers, ASHA Chief Staff Officer for Operations, Kyle Vickers, and Chief Executive Officer Arlene Pietranton joined the meeting to discuss current activities at ASHA.
National Advisor and National Office Update
Dr. Johnson provided a National Advisor update, including information related to connecting with mentors and end-of-year activities. Gennith Johnson provided information related to closing out 2021 ASHA Convention activities.
